About the NASAP Foundation

 

The National Association of Student Affairs Professionals is a professional organization dedicated to promoting excellence in the area of Student Affairs. The organization serves as a beacon for student affairs personnel addressing the issues and needs of today’s college students. With a varied membership spanning across academic, administrative, corporate, and student affairs boundaries, the organization offers a variety of educational resources, and professional experiences.

The NASAP Foundation seeks philanthropic support for NASAP’s research, scholarship, professional development and leadership programs. The NASAP Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. All donations are tax deductible.

Founded in 2007 during the presidency of Dr. Melvin Cleveland Terrell, with the support and guidance of NASAP Past President Roosevelt Littleton, Jr., its goal is to provide opportunities for college student educators to enhance their talents, experiences, and skills through grants, scholarships, internships, etc. enabling them to better prepare students for future leadership roles in a global society.

NASAP Foundation Mission Statement:

The Foundation was created to support professional development, career enhancement, and education of African American Student Affairs professionals and students in higher education. The foundation shall raise funds for the NASAP organization to conduct programs for their membership. The four fundamental programs are:

  • Professional Development

  • Research

  • Communications

  • Scholarships and Grants

The Foundation achieves its mission and goals through selective funding of programs and services:

  • A scholarly journal, the NASAP Journal, that significantly contributes to the scholarship and research of both the profession and student learning and development.
  • The NASAP Focus Newsletter, that keeps the membership informed of the organizations activities and provides highlights of the conferences.
  • Professional Development Activities, including the Annual Conference, Mid-year Conference, Student Leadership Institution, and Summit on Black Greek-Letter Organizations. These activities feature lectures, symposia, workshops, and panel discussion on the issues impacting African American administrators, educators, and students.
  • Awards Honoring Excellence, including the Sadie M. Yancey Award; the Benjamin L. Perry, Jr. Professional Award; the Outstanding Graduate Student Award; and the Outstanding Student Leader Award.
  • Research in Student Affairs, including identifying practices and programs that illustrate best practices, enhance the learning experience, foster African American student development.

 

The Foundation seeks funding through direct member appeals, grants, corporate giving and individual gifts and bequests. Both members and friends of NASAP have the opportunity to contribute to the Foundation in a variety of ways.

The National Association of Student Affairs Professionals Foundation was designed and developed to support the organization's activities related to the development of student affairs personnel and education of culturally diverse students. The Foundation seeks funding necessary to carry out the programs of the Organization. The foundation seeks funds that may be allocated for, but not limited to:

 

1.       Research publications, position papers, serials, and monographs.

 

2.     Financial assistance for student affairs graduate students and

grants-in-aid for scholarly student development research.

 

3.     Establishment of a foundation staff and a permanent office facility.

 

4.     Establishment of endowment for continued growth of the organization.

 

5.     Professional development and training for student leaders.

 

6.     Professional development and training for new, mid-level, and senior Student Affairs personnel.
