What NASAP is about.

NASAP is a professional organization dedicated to promoting excellence in the area
of Student Affairs. The organization serves as a beacon for student affairs
personnel addressing the issues and needs of today’s college students. With a
varied membership spanning across academic, administrative, corporate, and
student affairs boundaries, the organization offers a variety of resources, and
experiences.

NASAP serves a viable outlet for professional development. The organization was
founded in 1954. The Annual conference provides opportunities to: (a). foster team
building and sharing of knowledge, skills and abilities between those holding
administrative positions in Student Affairs; (b). create a network among student
affairs administrators at diverse colleges with emphasis on the administrative
challenges faced in such settings; and (c). provide opportunities to hear various
administrative challenges and a range of successful strategies currently being
implemented.

The origins of NASAP can be traced back to two parent organizations: (DOWA)-the
National Association of Deans of Women and Advisor of Girls in Colored schools
founded in 1929, and the (DOMA) - the National Association of Personnel Dean of
Men at Negro Educational Institutions, in 1935. History was made on Thursday April
1, 1954 at 4:00 p.m. on the campus of Howard University in the Wheatley Hall
Recreation Room. In a joint business session, delegates of the two parent
organizations gave NAPW – the Nationals Association of Personnel Workers it’s
founding.  Today were known as the National Association of Student Affairs
Professionals. We invite your full participation in NASAP.

On Feb 10, 2004 ,NASAP celebrated its 50th anniversary in Washington, DC on the
Campus of Howard University - the founding site of the organization. On February 21-
24, 2008 the National Association of Student Affairs Professionals will hold its 54th
Annual conference In Atlanta, Georgia. The Interdenominational Theological Center will serve as
the host institution.

NASAP provides and sponsors several programs and events which address the
nature and needs of our students and professional development of student affair
professionals facilitating those programs and services.
