The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is seeking nominations and
applications for the position of Assistant Dean of Students/ Director New
Student Programs. Founded in 1867, the Illinois campus is one of the original
37 public land-grant institutions. It is one of the top comprehensive research
public universities in the nation. The successful candidate will be working on
a campus with academically talented and diverse student population, including
19 percent international students, 12 percent Asian American students,
5 percent African American students, and 6 percent Hispanic/Latino students
from a total enrollment over 42,000 students.
Nature of Position
The Assistant Dean of Students /Director of New Student Programs is a full-time
academic professional staff member in the New Student Programs office, a unit of
the Office of the Dean of Students. The Assistant Dean oversees the development,
implementation and evaluation of orientation programs and transitional services
for new freshman and transfer students. The Assistant Dean of Students/Director
of New Student Programs reports to an Associate Dean of Students.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Executes the office mission while articulating a vision and direction for
New Student Programs at the university.
2. Oversee the development and delivery of orientation and transitional services
for more than 8000 new undergraduate students and their families.
3. Oversee the development and maintenance of the New Student Programs
website and social media platforms.
4. Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of various
orientation programs for new freshman and transfer students.
5. Establish coordination of programs throughout the university community
that supports the transition of first and transfer students.
6. Directly supervise the Assistant Director (s) in New Student Programs
and oversee the supervision of the paraprofessional staff and volunteers
through the Assistant Director's positions.
7. Prepare and monitor the New Student Programs program budget, as well
as initiate additional efforts to support revenue for the office
8. Oversee the data functions related to the New Student Programs scheduling
and payment functions.
9. Prepare and maintain appropriate periodic reports.
10. Serve as the principle liaison between New Student Programs and the
Office of Undergraduate Admission for all budgetary and undergraduate
enrollment related issues.
11. Initiate and coordinate collaborative opportunities among student and
academic affairs units to support the transition of first year and transfer students.
12. Develop collaborative relationships with Undergraduate Admissions to
enhance the overall goals of summer registration and orientation
.
13. Develop, utilize, and execute outcome assessment of the Office of New
Student Programs objectives, services and initiatives.
14. Serve on various campus and division committees.
15. Perform other duties as assigned (including campus committees).

participate in the office programs.
Qualifications
1. Master's Degree in counseling, higher education, student personnel, or related
field is required. Successful candidates will have five years professional work
experience in collegiate student affairs.
2. Demonstrated staff training and supervision experience.
3. Demonstrated expertise in the delivery and development of transitional programs
for a diverse student body.
4. Demonstrated experience in program development and delivery.
Appointment Type: Regular twelve month, 100% academic professional appointment.
